STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)

A STEM approach to learning and development is embedded within all daily practices in all rooms of our centre.

STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Through STEM, children develop key skills including:

  • problem solving
  • creativity
  • critical analysis
  • teamwork
  • independent thinking
  • initiative
  • communication
  • digital literacy

Building foundational STEM skills needs to start when children are very young. Young children experience rapid brain development and acquire skills at a faster rate than at any other time in life.

Children are born curious and ready to explore the world around them. An emphasis on developing STEM skills in the early years can encourage children to feel positive and enthusiastic about STEM, leading to interest and achievement later in life. (Dept of Education-Victoria)
